📝 Overview

Reviews on Sawyer help build trust by letting real customer experiences speak for themselves. Whether you're writing a review about an activity you've attended, managing reviews you've left in the past, or concerned about a review you've seen, this guide covers everything you need to know about how reviews work, our community standards, and how to keep the Sawyer community safe and supportive for everyone.

📊 How Reviews Work

Review Collection

After you book and complete an activity through Sawyer, you'll receive an automated email asking for feedback:

  • For drop-in classes: You'll receive one review request email within 24 hours after the activity ends. We'll only ask you to review the same drop-in activity once every 2 months.

  • For semester-length activities or camps: You'll be prompted to review halfway through the activity's term. For example, you'd receive a review email on day 15 of a 30-day camp.

Who Sees Your Review

When you submit a review through Sawyer, you agree to share it both with the provider directly and publicly on the Sawyer Marketplace. Here's what's visible to different groups:

  • The provider: Can see your full name, email, star-rating, and written review in their Sawyer provider portal

  • Only provider account owners/admins: Can see your full contact information

  • Marketplace visitors: See only your first name, your star-rating, and any information you voluntarily share in your written review text

Star Ratings & Provider Reviews

The Sawyer Marketplace displays an aggregate Provider Review, which is an average of all star-ratings for that provider across all their activities. A minimum of 5 reviews is required before an aggregate rating is shown.

Where Reviews Are Displayed

Reviews appear in multiple locations on the Sawyer Marketplace:

  • On Activity Cards
When browsing the Sawyer Marketplace, you'll see provider reviews on individual activity cards.

  • On Activity Details Pages
When you click into a specific activity, you'll see reviews displayed beneath the activity and provider name.

  • On Provider Pages
Provider pages show all reviews for that business at a glance, displayed beneath the provider name.

Review Order

The most recent reviews appear at the top of the list.

📋 Community Standards & Guidelines

Click here to learn what makes a helpful review and what Sawyer will remove.

What Makes a Helpful Review

Reviews are most helpful when they're:

  • Truthful and genuine — Based on your real experience, not made up or influenced by outside incentives

  • About personal experience — Written from your own perspective, not on behalf of others

  • Relevant — Focused on the activity and provider experience

  • Respectful — Constructive and considerate, even when sharing negative feedback

Feedback should be constructive. When you have a positive experience, be specific with your compliments. When you have concerns, explain them clearly so the provider can understand and improve.

What Sawyer Will Remove

At our discretion, Sawyer will remove reviews and provider replies that contain text we deem inconsistent with our community standards. This includes content that is:

  • Personal information — Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other identifying information of individuals

  • Inappropriate — Offensive language, harassment, hate speech, or sexual content

  • Irrelevant — Not related to the activity or provider experience

  • A conflict of interest — Reviews written by competitors, the provider themselves, or someone with a financial stake in the outcome

We want everyone who visits the Sawyer Marketplace to feel safe, supported, and respected. If you see a review that doesn't meet these standards, you can flag it for our review team to consider for removal.

🛠️ Managing Your Reviews

Click here to learn how to find, edit, and manage reviews you've written.

Finding Your Reviews

You can find all reviews you've written in the My Reviews section of your Account. This shows:

  • Written reviews: All reviews you've submitted

  • Pending reviews: Activities you've attended but haven't reviewed yet

Editing or Removing a Review

Important: Reviews cannot be edited once submitted. However, you can remove a review:

  1. Go to My Reviews in your Account

  2. Find the review you want to remove

  3. Click Remove Review

When you remove a review, it's deleted from:

  • Your My Reviews page

  • The provider's Sawyer Tools portal

  • The Sawyer Marketplace

Note: Removed reviews are not counted in the aggregate star-rating displayed on the Sawyer Marketplace. Once a review is removed, you cannot rewrite or resubmit it for the same activity.

Flagging Inappropriate Reviews

If you see a review by someone else that doesn't meet our community standards, you can flag it:

  1. Locate the review on an activity page or provider page

  2. Look for a flag or report option (usually near the review)

  3. Let us know why you believe the review should be removed

We encourage community members to help us maintain a respectful marketplace. Our team will review flagged content and take action if it violates our standards.

⚠️ Review Ethics & Prohibited Behavior

Sawyer has clear rules to ensure all reviews are honest and authentic.

You may not:

  • Accept incentives (discounts, free classes, payments, gifts, etc.) in exchange for leaving a positive review

  • Threaten to leave a bad review in order to influence a provider's service or get a refund

  • Offer incentives to others for leaving positive reviews

  • Write reviews on behalf of someone else or coordinate multiple fake reviews

Why these rules matter: These practices undermine the trust and authenticity of our review system. Reviews are most valuable when they reflect genuine customer experiences.

If you're aware of review manipulation or incentive-based reviews, please reach out to our support team at [email protected].
